Poetry and Verse

So often a simple quote from a piece of poetry or the chorus of a song can define an entire journey and every time you hear that song or read that piece of poetry you are immediately taken back to that time and place and you always will be.  I will always believe that a people will define a country no matter its history or what it has to offer it will always be the men and women that live there.

This quote from Maya defines everything travel is – experiencing different cultures and see the world the through different eyes as the world through yours.  Understanding and appreciating ways of life different from our own, respecting customs and beliefs even if we may not agree, and along the we may even find true love.

“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends. – Maya Angelou

Just like a line from a poem the chorus of a song can have the same effect, it doesn’t always matter what the song itself is about but the chorus is what you remember most about it – we often hear songs in our travels that we remember for whatever reason and no matter where you hear it, you are instantly take back to that moment, place and time.

The tag line of my site is ‘..every journey brings me closer..’ and it is from the song ‘Break Every Rule’  by Tina Turner and the song  is about each journey bringing you closer to that place when you can finally say ‘I did it’ I found that place where you are finally happy and at peace – each and every journey you took it brought you closer to that place.

‘…every road that I walk on, every flight, every dream that I dream of that I dream of every journey brings me closer…’

This one is from the poem ‘Ulysses’ by Lord Alfred Tennyson’ and I discovered this piece on the last episode of the TV show ‘Frasier’ he reads it as he signs for the final time.

‘…Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’ we are not now that strength which on old days moved heaven and earth, that which we are, we are; one equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will – to strive, to see, to find and not to yield…’

This the chorus from the song ‘All The Way to Love’ from the movie ‘Lean on Me’ performed by Siedah Garret and it is to bad that it did not got the recognition it deserved, and the message is about going to that place you are ready to sacrifice to get too and change your direction in life – at least that is what I get from it –
‘…I’m ready to change my direction in life all the way to love – see I’m ready to go, why don’t you just take me, take me, take me I wanna go all the way to love I wanna go all the way to love – see I’m ready to, I’m ready to make my decision all the way to love … see I’m ready to make every sacrifice all the way to love…’

And my final quote is from the song ‘The Places You Find Love’ by Quincy Jones and I could easily put the entire song but there are two pieces of the song that remind me of all the people I meet a long the way in my journeys and how we find some sort of common ground and we see how much alike we are and while we are striving for the same thing in the midst of it all we are unknowingly looking for that place we find love

Everybody’s pushing, the clock is always running
And no one ever seems to have enough
And when you least expect it
You come upon the places you find love

Everybody’s dreaming, waiting for the feeling
For that moment when they finally rise above
But it’s always in the giving
That gets you to the places that you find love

What are the songs that take you back to define that time and place and why it means so much to you?
